Beyond Green: Expressive Color in the Landscape

Bring some color into your landscape painting this summer! Working from the inspirational landscapes of Ryerson Woods, students will learn how painters from the Impressionist, Expressionist, and Fauvist movements thought about nature. Instructor Nina Weiss will provide a brief review of color and light to help students utilize techniques such as layering, optical mixture, broken brushstrokes, and glazing to break through the limitations of local color in representing the landscape. Ideas about compositions and gesture will be presented to help students learn to best compose and extract their vision from the landscape. Students will create small paintings in the medium of their choice, including gouache, acrylic and oil. Raindate: Sunday, July 28. Presented in partnership with North Shore Art League.

Brushwood. $160. Registration required. To register, call North Shore Art League at 847.446.2870.
